What we do:
Young Design Studio is a full service architectural practice based in Lakewood, Ohio. We bring strong design principles and a collaborative, intuitive design process to every project. The YDS team values working on a wide variety of project scales: from home renovations and additions, to urban design masterplanning and everything in between. Our collective experience encompasses residential new construction and renovation, multifamily development, corporate office, retail, hospitality, higher education and masterplanning at some of the region’s top design firms. We believe this breadth of experience gives us the ability to find creative solutions and develop unique designs for our projects.
We take a client focused approach to design; we enjoy working with our clients to achieve the best solution every project, regardless of scale or budget. While different projects may vary, our process usually follows the progression below:

Initial meeting with the clients establishes expectations, program, goals and priorities for the project. We will also review code and zoning regulations that may impact the project.

We work to translate the client’s vision into drawings: plans, elevations, 3D massing models and renderings and sometimes video animations. This phase will include meetings to review and work towards a final design through client input.

After the design has been finalized with the clients, we will provide drawings detailed as needed based on project scope. This phase may include presentations to Architectural Review Boards and usually culminates in submission of drawings for permit review.

We issue working drawings and specifications for contractor use. We are also available if contracted to perform construction site visits, review questions, issue clarifications, and address any unforeseen field conditions.
Who we are:
Young Design Studio is comprised of principles Brandon and Magdalina (Maggie) Young, licensed and insured Architects with over 25 years of professional experience. Now a married couple, Brandon and Maggie met in the undergrad architecture program at Kent State University, they moved to Lakewood together and completed their Masters at Architecture and Urban Design at the Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative. After 10+ years working in local design firms on projects in Cleveland and beyond, Brandon founded YDS in 2021, with Maggie joining the team in 2023.
Brandon’s passion for design and construction began at a young age. He worked during the summers for his uncle’s custom home construction business as a general laborer. Throughout this time he learned about almost every construction trade, while seeing how the design on paper got implemented into built construction. He retained and cherished these skillsets throughout his education and career.
For Maggie, architecture is the family business, her parents met in the KSU College of Architecture, and are both architects. She takes pride in finding functional and beautiful solutions to design and construction challenges.
Brandon and Maggie have a passion for historic homes and have taken a hands-on approach to restoring and renovating together since 2013. In their free time, they love to find inspiration from their travels around the world, and find a few peaceful moments sailing Lake Erie with their daughter Eliza.
