Originally designed by notable local architect William Trout in 1977, the home reflects many of his signature design principles, most strikingly the use of bold geometries layered within a mountain lodge aesthetic. The original construction features unique 12x12 mine shaft timbers to shape the pergolas and outdoor features that frame the rear courtyard.
The addition has been carefully designed to extend and reinforce this architectural language. The program includes a new garage, expanded outdoor living space, a guest suite, and a family room. The sharp roof lines and 12x12 timbers that were a major part of the original design are replicated in the new design.
We were lucky enough to obtain the original drawings for this home and appreciate the care and attention to detail that went into them. One of the more memorable features from the original design is a “swimming grotto,” complete with an underground tunnel connecting the indoor and outdoor pools.
We’re looking forward to seeing this project take shape in the Summer of 2026 and to thoughtfully extending the life of a Trout-designed home.
